The Sailplane Homebuilders Association

The Sailplane Homebuilders Association (SHA) was formed in 1981 for the purpose of recognizing a growing specialized interest group within the SSA membership. The organization resulted from the great successes achieved during SSA Homebuilder Workshops which still serve to provide a channel of communication for soaring enthusiasts who are dedicated toward furthering the concept of developing low-cost sailplanes. The SHA's newsletter, SHAp Talk, is widely circulated.

Design Exhibitions

Design exhibitions bring together members who are experts in the fields of flight evaluation, load testing, and stress analysis. Entries are accepted in any of the seven classes of sailplanes:
  1. Open
  2. 15-Meter
  3. Standard
  4. Self-launching
  5. Multiplace
  6. Sport
  7. Ultra-light
Sailplane Development

The SHA leads the way in sailplane development by demonstrating how to produce greater performance and better safety through more efficient design.

SHA Membership

SHA members are scattered geographically throughout nearly every state and many foreign countries. Members are united by their common interest: to make soaring flight available to all who will exert themselves sufficiently to achieve it.

Dues and Newsletter

Annual SHA dues are $15.00 which includes the monthly newsletter.
