The National Aeronautic Association The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) was chartered in 1922 as the successor to the Aero Club of America, which had been founded in 1905. NAA is the U.S. representative of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale and is responsible for certifying all national and world aircraft and spacecraft record flights claimed in the U.S. NAA also serves to promote aviation through national publicity on aviation events, support of aviation education and by administering the Collier, Wright Brother, Mackay, and Brewer Trophies for outstanding contributions to aviation and space flight. NAA is comprised of various divisions, including SSA, each of which has been given authority to administer the part of the FAI Sporting Code pertaining to its specialty interest. NAA is also comprised of local Chapter Aero Clubs, affiliate organizations, and individual members. It maintains a national headquarters office in Washington, DC. Members of SSA may join NAA as Divisional Members. Tangible benefits include silver lapel wings, automobile rental discounts, discounts on Aerospace Book Club Selections, discounts on many national aviation magazines, travel accident and injury medical expense insurance, are included in dues.
