The Auiliary-Powered Sailplane Association
The
Self-Launching Sailplane Pilots Association was formed March 17, 1988 at the SSA
National Convention in Atlanta, GA by twelve pilots:

The stated mission was:

To encourage the development, production and use of
self-launching sailplanes to advance the art of soaring by encouraging:

a. |
Participation in U.S. National and Regional Auxiliary-Powered Sailplane
Class Soaring Championships. |
|
|
b. |
U.S. Team selection and participation in foreign and world motorgliding
championships. |
|
|
c. |
Mutual exchange of safe flying procedures, power plant servicing, repair,
maintenance procedures and problems. |
|
|
d. |
Comparison of technical development, construction and performance levels. |
|
|
e. |
The development of friendly relations between U.S. self-launching pilots as
well as motorglider pilots of other nations. |
|
2. |
To represent and speak for the U.S. self-launching sailplane
pilot community in relations with government and regulatory authorities and the
sailplane and engine industries serving the self-launching sailplane market.

This charter has been modified to include sustainer
engine sailplanes in the Articles of Incorporation. |
