Day 5 is another interesting day. The task is a 2 1/2 hour post that Charlie calls a "flying rest day." When the gate opens, the weather is typical of what we've had for the entire contest, but it soon changes. All of a sudden, we have overdevelopment with clag that just won't go away. Most of the task area is covered with this clag and haze that is difficult to see through. Most pilots run for the sunshine when it briefy appears and pops a cloud. The winner for the day is the team of Jousma/Schwartz (flown by Jousma), with a speed of 44.1mph. Second is surprisingly Pat Tuckey at 43 mph. The rest of the top five are John Wrona at 42.3, Bill Vickland 39.4 and Bob Von Hellens at 39.1. One thing to note for the day is that there were no landouts. The top of the score sheet has finally been shaken, but the threesome is still the same, just a slightly different order. As of day five, Pat Tuckey has 4796 points, Mark Keene has 4614, and Dan Mockler has 4596. The weather for day 6 looks like more of the same, but day 7 might be iffy because of a front that is expected to go through. Mark Current Standings: Cumulative Scores: 1. TUCKEY 4796 2.
