Weather Forecast Jan 13 Situation: A ridge of high pressure lies across central NZ between an eastward moving high centre over the central Tasman and a stationary centre near the Chathams. A westerly flow affects the south of the country ahead of a weak front expected to brush the south of the South Island about midday. Forecast: Fine weather with patchy high cloud but thickening mid level cloud affecting areas from Wanaka south from late morning. Westerly winds, stronger in the south and backing SW from about midday. NE flow developing in the east this morning. Winds weaker in the north. Soaring: Weak wave from about Queenstown but dissipating by mid afternoon. Moderate blue thermals although isolated CU developing about the tops. Thermals weak under middle cloud cover. Moderate convection associated with convergence about the east ranges this afternoon. Temp max approx 28.5C.
