A NW flow affects the South Island ahead of a frontal system moving over the south Tasman Sea. Forecast: Mainly broken mid/high level cloud. Isolated areas of light rain/ virga spreading from the west at times especially late afternoon. Westerly flow gusty at surface during afternoon. Coastal easterlies. Soaring: Weak/mod thermals developing by midday. Moderate ridge lift. Moderate to strong wave. Severe turbulence especially in the south and mainly below 10,000 ft. Winds 5 to 10 knots, stronger in the south. Temp max 25C at 1600.
