Nepenthes madagascariensis
Pitcher of a Madagascar Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes madagascariensis). The fly on the inside of the top lid is living dangerously. The inner walls of the pitcher are very smooth and there is a liquid in the bottom of the pitcher. If a fly falls into the pitcher, it will not be able to climb up the wall to get out of the liquid. The liquid contains enzymes that digest the fly. (684k)
