Most of the pictures on this page are from the Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj, a fantastic bird sanctuary, about 60 km (37 miles) north of the Saint Louis. The monitor lizard was quite large, probably about 1.2 m (3.9 ft) long. The bird pictures are on a separate bird page.

The Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
