What is Soaring

Man dreamed for centuries of flying effortlessly on currents of air like the hawk and eagle. Now, man has gone to the moon, but soaring (or gliding) remains the purest form of flight he can enjoy. Soaring is nothing more than motorless flight in a machine (sailplane) that allows the experienced pilot to use the energy present in the atmosphere to remain aloft for hours at a time and to travel hundreds of miles without landing. Modern sailplanes use state of the art composite materials and enable us to fly higher, faster and farther than the greatest of birds. Click on " Soaring in America (PDF format, 2Mb)" for an introduction to the exciting sport of soaring.
